NYC Pre-Professional Intensive: “The Ballet Bootcamp”

NYC Pre-Professional Intensive: “The Ballet Bootcamp”

Ready to learn what it takes to dance professionally and progress faster than ever before? Join us at our Pre-Professional summer dance intensive in NYC held over 3 weeks from August 3 through August 25, 2020.

Our pre-professional dance program is for advanced dancers between the ages of 14 and 25. Dancers in this intensive will attend classes Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, with an in-studio performance for parents held at the end of each week. Dancers will study under renowned masters and professionals and will experience rapid improvement in their technique and understanding of what it really takes to be successful as a professional dancer.

Dancers will work with top ballet professionals such as Artistic Director Era Jouravlev, Maximilien Baud, Stacy Caddell, Marina Bogdanova and Andrei Jouravlev. Ms. Jouravlev is a former Principal of the New Jersey Ballet and the Perm State Opera in Russia who has toured with stars of the world famous Kirov and Bolshoi Ballets and has been an instructor with the Joffrey Ballet School since 1997.

Like other Joffrey intensives, dancers are placed in the Pre-Professional intensive by audition, however the audition process works differently than for our other intensives. Pre-Professional auditions are held as a 90 minute class taught by one of the Joffrey Ballet School’s instructors, and will allow us to place dancers at their skill level in the Pre-Professional Intensive or in our 4-Year Trainee program which runs from September through May.

Experience Life in the City That Never Sleeps

Of course, doing a summer dance intensive in New York is a great opportunity to make progress as a dancer, but it’s also a great opportunity to experience one of North America’s top cultural destinations. From ballet to musical theater to Broadway shows, you’ll find it all in New York. One of the perks of attending our NYC summer dance intensives is the opportunity to take in world class performances by the world’s top dance and theater professionals.

Housing at Joffrey’s NYC Dance Intensives

When not in class, dancers over the age of 12 requiring housing will stay at the Joffrey Ballet School Residence or Pace University residence halls near the dance studios.

One unique aspect of all our New York summer dance intensives is that we put special emphasis on the safety and welfare of our dancers. This makes our intensives an excellent choice, especially for younger dancers. We offer airport pickup and drop off for dancers traveling to New York from out of town, and our dancers are chaperoned in small groups when not in class. No other NYC dance intensive offers this level of support and supervision.

Resident advisors in our housing facilities offer support and plan activities to ensure that dancers have fun in their off time as well. Pizza parties, movies and other activities help dancers to make friends and connections that will last long after their time at the Joffrey comes to an end.
