Dallas, Texas: Joffrey Southwest Fusion Dance Intensive
Texas is known for its Southwestern and Tex-Mex cooking – a fusion of Mexican and American food influences. So it’s fitting that Joffrey’s Fusion Dance Intensive in Dallas, Texas brings together the influences of ballet, Jazz / Contemporary dance and musical theater to provide a wealth of expressive opportunity for each dancer.
Our Fusion Dance Intensive is offered from July 13 through July 31, 2020 in Dallas, on the campus of Texas Woman’s University (TWU). Dancers who attend our Joffrey Southwest Fusion intensive will learn to bring together various approaches and techniques that will allow them to grow as dancers and expose them to a wealth of possibilities. They will work on Ballet to develop proper technique and precision, jazz/contemporary to enhance their freedom of movement and expression and discover the world of musical theater and commercial dance to gain insight into professional opportunities that may lie ahead.
The Dallas Southwest Fusion dance intensive is led by Artistic Director Desmond Richardson, one of the most esteemed male dancers in the modern dance world. His experience includes seven years as a principal of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and starring roles with the American Ballet Theater as well as on Broadway and in television and film.
Our Joffrey Southwest intensive is intended for dancers between the ages of 8 and 25; this intensive does not offer housing for dancers traveling in to the intensive. Classes are held from 9 am to 5 pm in the Dance and Gymnastics Laboratory and in the Pioneer Hall dance studios on the TWU campus.

All admissions to the Joffrey’s summer dance intensives are by audition only. Each audition is a 90 minute master class with one of our world renowned instructors that allows us to place each dancer into the intensives or our year round dancer training programs at the appropriate level, as well as providing scholarship opportunities.
